Utter bullshit. Once again, people don't know who to blame for their fat rolls. Also, retouching has been used even before photoshop was released, this is how the industry works. magazines are NOT real life in any way, anyone who tries to imitate that is hopeless and deserves the fate he chooses for himself.

If you try to be a model that does this "be perfect" then they're stupid, photoshop is just like any other art, its just there to open your mind to something new in the world.

The problem is that using photoshop in this way shows a level of perfection that is physically impossible, not just extreme.

...Each sun spot is there because I spent too much time playing sports in the sun or too much time having fun outdoors, where I love to be most. Sure, they remind me to wear sunscreen now, but I don't hate those "imperfections". They are a part of me.

Has anyone making these comments ever known anyone who has an eating disorder? Have you ever watched someone you care about die trying to acheive this so called perfection? I agree that photos should not be retouched. Why hide what we truly look like? Are we all really that ugly? I'm at an age where I am beginning to see lines form, the results of sun damage in my skin, etc. But each line is there because of years of smiles and laughter, years of happiness.....

Agreed.
Also, back in either the 1700's or 1800's women used to eat something poisonous to make their skin as white as possible because being tanned meant you worked outside and were thus, poor.
It was only used in higher society by the wealthy.

Dude, what planet are you from? Women used to suffocate themselves wearing corsets for the sake of "perfection." Chinese women had their feet wrapped and deformed for the sake of perfection. People in tribes stick holes in their body and scar themselves for the sake of perfection. Just because it's a different aesthetic ideal doesn't mean anything. Doing idiotic things for the sake of society's been happening since the dawn of humanity. This ain't got anything to do with photoshop.

The only pictures I think it should be illegal to retouch are ads for things like makeup, hair products, skin products, and diet pills, programs, etc. Anything where the look of the ad is going to affect our decision to buy. That is false advertisement and should therefore be illegal. It's always rediculous to see an ad for mascara where you can tell she's obviously wearing false eyelashes or an ad for liquid foundation and the model's skin is so flawless she doesn't even have pores.

That's the thing though. Things didn't used to have to be perfect for people to find them acceptable. Things were unique and had character, not everything was a perfectly polished, analyzed-all-over, 100% "professional" fabrication. |
