About this site - who, what, and whyHi and thanks for visiting Internet-for-Business.com I'm Scotch Macaskill (it's a nickname) and, as you can see from the photo, I'm from the "fax generation" i.e. someone who didn't grow up with computers and the Internet.
So they're all pretty clueless about computers and the Net. That's why I put together this site — to provide a basic overview of the Internet and ecommerce from someone who's not a techie. I empathise with anyone who feels confused and threatened by the march of technology. At the time I was producing a subscription newsletter for expatriate South Africans that was:
Although I first started hearing about this "Internet" thing in 1995, it was only the following year that I got connected and embarked on my surfing odyssey. Wow — what a revelation! To my total surprise, I found some South African newspapers were already offering free content on the Web. Writing on the wallThat was it. I saw the writing on the wall and immediately closed my business. I subsequently spent about 10 years working for a small company that manufactures and markets outdoor clothing. It has a mail-order section and has been selling over the web since 1997, albeit on a small scale. So I have experience of working for a small business where I was responsible for getting the business online and connected to the Internet, setting up email accounts, building their websites, and handling various aspects of customer communications and marketing. I now work full-time from home, helping business associates build and maintain their websites, while also pursuing my interest in wildlife photography. If you're interested, you can see some of my pictures on my wildlife photography site, Wildlife Pictures Online. |
